허비 행콕의 인터뷰

전설적인 재즈 피아니스트 허비 행콕 라이브
전설적인 재즈 피아니스트, 작곡가, 이노베이터이기도 한 허비 행콕의 "재즈 센트럴" 라이브 공연 작품.

이 라이브는 워싱턴의 블랙 엔터테인먼트 텔레비전의 제2 스튜디오에서 라이브로 녹음되었다. 행콕은 그의 복잡하고 솔직한 리듬 음악으로 그의 그래미상 수상 스타일의 재즈를 보여주고 있다.

허비 행콕의 격렬하지는 않지만 세련되고 자극적인 즉흥연주는 펑키하고 블루지한 면이 강하다. 그의 연주는 대단히 섬세한 가운데 격렬한 느낌이 없이도 강렬하게 스윙한다.

작곡에 있어서도 재능을 보이는데 60년대 히트곡인 'Watermelon Man'이 그의 작품이다. 마일즈 데이비스의 사이드맨으로 퓨전재즈의 초기에 커다란 영향력을 행사했다. 70 년대 초에는 록 스타일의 펑키한 리듬을 만들어 대중적인 인기를 얻기도 했다
